I started Eating, Gardening & Living in Bulgaria on July 17th 2008, as a way to have a deeper conversation about food, plants and life with others who share the same passions. There were many starts and stops along the way mainly due to the fact that I was working steadily in the Bulgarian film industry. Although it seems like I have been at it for awhile, I have only been serious about keeping up with my blog since August 2009, when I finally realized that the career path I was following was not going to take me where I wanted to go.
I decided that I desperately wanted to attend culinary school, so I enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), knowing full well that even if I got accepted I couldn't go. Why? Because my family and I live in Bulgaria and will be here for quite some time. I couldn't expect that my husband and my kids would just follow me to Hyde Park, New York for 21 months. But, I applied anyway and got accepted and I have deferred my enrollment for another year, till my husband and I can figure out a plan that works for both of us. Despite what some of my posts say, he supports me 100%, but the logistics are tricky.
My husband urged me to take advantage of what is around me, so I have been using my blog as a way to share my journey towards becoming a chef. My culinary philosophy is one that has become increasingly popular and widely accepted: cooking with the freshest possible food that is locally grown and avoiding all processed/ packaged food. When I write a post or brainstorm for new ideas, these are the parameters that guide me.
I am very grateful for all the people who take the time to read and comment on my blog. I welcome you to ask me any question about my life in Bulgaria, my family etc... and I will do my best to answer them.
